No, you won’t–because you’ll be wrong, and that will be damaging to your fan cried. This would be like insisting that the Post-Crisis DC Earth was Earth-1. It might be what you want, but it isn’t so, and like in that case, you will eventually come to accept the new normal.
Uh, yes we will keep using it, and we won’t be wrong, Nor will we be damaging your ‘fan cried’. The ones who’d be damaging their ‘fan cried’ would be the ones who actually insist on calling it ‘Prime Earth’ or just ‘The Marvel Universe.’ 616 isn’t just some former designation for the main Marvel Universe. It’s also a handy and affectionate nickname that by this point is completely inseparable from the main Marvel Universe. Plus, some people actually like the idea that the main MU isn’t the be-all and end-all in the grand scheme of things, unlike DC who’s always trying to prop up the main DC Universe as being the center of the multiverse despite there being no reason for this to be so.
As for using 616 being like ‘insisting that the Post-Crisis DC Earth was Earth-1′, the difference there was that Post Crisis DC was actually a different Earth; not just in terms of technicality, but in that it actually had a different history and (somewhat) altered continuity. Here, most if not all of the history and continuity of the previous main Marvel Universe has remained intact. Semantics aside, there’s no real difference between this MU and the previous one, or at least not one that matters. For all intents and purposes, this ‘new’ MU is no different than 616′, so there’s not reason not to keep using it. The only way you’re going to keep most fans from using it is to pass a law prohibiting anyone from using it, and unless Marvel somehow becomes rulers of the USA, I doubt that’ll happen anytime soon.
The bottom line is, we’ve continued to use it, and we’ll keep using it, because we like using it. It’s as simple as that.
